Equitable laws and a legal system prepared to uphold the intent of the law are the foundation for good governance. Governments must provide an effective and accessible legal system that ensures access to justice and acceptable levels of safety and security. Societies without basic legal rights are often prone to strife and conflict and tend to lack basic human rights. They also suffer from chronic poverty and economic stagnation.
PDP assists governments to prepare and implement legal and security reforms that promote economic opportunities, encourage social development, improve safety, increase access to justice and empower individuals and communities. We help bolster the capacity of government law and justice agencies and institutions to uphold the law and when necessary improve security systems that underpin civil rights and basic human rights. We strengthen agencies and institutions so that they can provide a rule of law environment that is transparent, accessible and participatory in application.
We build capacity among law administration, regulatory, justice and security agencies to prepare and manage:
- legal and judicial system reforms and administration
- access to justice programs
- police reform programs including community policing
- design and assimilation of economic integration frameworks
- anti-corruption and anti-money laundering regimes
- legislative drafting to support transformation in the above areas.
