PDP has a strong international track record in facilitating private sector development. We assist client governments to create streamlined business climates that are free from policy discretion and unnecessary administrative, regulatory and legal constraints. We help design reforms that establish the right conditions for the private sector to flourish. PDP also advocates the provision of explicit institutional support to the private sector, so that individual companies (including SMEs), sectors and markets can prosper and grow. We believe private sector development is crucial to economic growth and that sustainable economic growth creates jobs, reduces poverty and increases the tax base thereby increasing government’s ability to expand the delivery of social services.
We prepare and help implement:
- public-private partnerships
- regulatory regimes
- effective institutional arrangements and performance in private sector support agencies (Chambers of Commerce, enterprise agencies, finance organisations, trade associations, technology and innovation centres and other technical institutions and training organisations) and investment promotion agencies.
Much of the work in this area complements our trade and investment policy work, notably training and other capacity building activities to strengthen international competitiveness.
